Hal Holbrook, the legendary actor and winner of 5 Emmys has passed away in his Beverly Hills home on January 23, 2021. He was 95.

Holbrook perhaps was best known to horror fans for playing roles in John Carpenter’s ‘THE FOG’ as Father Malone and in George A. Romeo’s ‘CREEPSHOW’ as Henry Northrup in ‘THE CRATE’ segment.

‘Lincoln’ director Steven Spielberg, who worked with Holbrook on the film released a statement today:

“In 1970, I visited the set of the TV series The Bold Ones: The Senator to watch Hal Holbrook play Senator Hays Stowe. From that day on, it was my dream to work with this transformative actor, and it finally happened 42 years later when he portrayed Preston Blair in Lincoln. Hal was, quite simply, an American classic who brought Mark Twain and so many of our nation’s most memorable characters back to life. He was unforgettable in All the President’s MenInto the Wild and so many, many more roles over the years. I’ll be forever grateful for the time we spent together on Lincoln, and the world has lost a class act.”

Other genre roles for Holbrook include ‘Rituals’ (1977), ‘The Unholy’ (1988), ‘Hush’ (1998), and the episode titled “Final Appeal” from “The Outer Limits” that aired in the year 2000.
