‘MALIGNANT’ director James Wan’s (Saw) new horror thriller will be released in Theaters and HBO Max on September 10, 2021!

This new film just wrapped production last week and James Wan was very excited to announce the release date on his instagram account.

“I’m super excited for this film. I don’t even know how to describe it. I wanted to do something original and genre-bending, and different to my other work, but still in the spirit of the horror-thrillers I grew up with. More to come.”

The cast for ‘MALIGNANT’ includes Maddie Hasson, Mckenna Grace, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Abel, George Young, Ingrid Bisu, Michole Briana White and Jacqueline McKenzie.

The story has been kept under wraps but it will be a thriller type horror film in the same vein as Italian Style ‘Giallo’ films like 70’s Mario Bava thrillers.

This particular style of Italian-produced murder mystery thriller-horror film (known more specifically in Italy as giallo all’italiana, roughly translated as “Italian-style giallo“) usually blends the atmosphere and suspense of thriller fiction with elements of horror fiction (such as slasher violence) and eroticism (similar to the French fantastique genre), and often involves a mysterious killer whose identity is not revealed until the final act of the film.

The genre developed in the mid-to-late 1960s, peaked in popularity during the 1970s, and subsequently declined in commercial mainstream filmmaking over the next few decades, though less prominent examples continue to be produced. It has been considered a predecessor to, and significant influence on, the later American slasher film genre.
