'SCREAM 5' Slashing On To Screens Next Year

Yes, believe it or not, there’s a NEW ‘SCREAM’ movie in the works. If you’re a fan of the franchise, then this great news! If not, then this story is not for you.

This what we know so far. When Wes Craven signed on to make ‘SCREAM 4’ back in 2011, he was under contract to make 2 more sequels in the event that ‘SCREAM 4’ was received well and did decent numbers at the box office. The film did both, fans loved the film and it did respectable numbers at the box office raking in $97.1 million! But unfortunately, Wes Craven who directed all 4 films past away in 2015 of a brain tumor. Any talk about another ‘SCREAM’ seemed to fade with the passing of Wes.

The rights to the ‘SCREAM’ franchise rest with the newly minted Spyglass Media Group who used to be known as SpyGlass Entertainment. In 2019, the newly formed company wanted their first movie project to be a remake of the film ‘Hellraiser’. Now, they are setting their sights on a NEW ‘SCREAM’ franchise. This new film will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett who just recently made the film ‘Ready or Not’ in 2019. This is great news since ‘Ready or Not’ had both brutal horror and a dark sense of humor which is perfect for the ‘SCREAM’ films.

Who’s attached to the film? Right now, David Arquette and Courtney Cox are officially part of the project. But will they get Neve Campbell back as the lead role of Sidney Prescott? She is in talks to reprise her role and has expressed great interest in coming back to the franchise. I guess we will have to wait and see.

To be honest, I am really looking forward to seeing this new ‘SCREAM’ film. I was really impressed with ‘Ready or Not’ and I think these directors could really put new life into this great franchise.
